Consumption is changing and affects positively the white and sparkling wines. In the first four months of 2024, the export of Italian sparkling wine to the world reached 684 million euro (+11.2% in value compared to 2023) and 160.6 million liters (+14.3% in volume compared to 2023).
Prosecco is worth one-fifth of the imports of Italian wine in the world, with 519 million euro, and is the demonstration that the Italian bubbles are decisive for the sector, compared to the other typologies.
The export of sparkling wines is growing: at the top there are the USA with a value of 170.2 million euro. According to the U.S. Bureau of Census, the United States are also the main importer of “Organic Sparkling Wine” with 2.37 million dollars and a volume of 334,883 liters (7.09 €/liter). Second place for Spain, which exceeds France in terms of quantity (116,212 liters against 85,714) but not in value; in fact, France stands out with 1.2 million dollars thanks to a price of 14,13 dollars per liter.
Chile, Argentina, Moldova, Australia, Greece, South Africa, Austria and Slovenia are next in the ranking. Austria and Slovenia even surpass France in price per liter: settling at 15.49 dollars/liter (Slovenia) and 16.53 dollars/liter (Austria).
