The latest Istat data for the first eleven months of 2024 show an increase in Italian wine exports to world markets, despite a historical period not entirely promising. Exports from Italy reached 7.5 billion euros (+5.4% over the same period in 2023) for 2 billion liters (+3.3%). For this increase, Italy must thank above all the sparkling wines that reach 517 million liters exported (+12.6% on 2023) and reach 2.2 billion euros (+9.3% on 2023).
The USA is the first destination of Italian exports with 1.76 billion euros (+9% on 2023), followed by Germany with 1.1 billion euros (+4% on 2023)) and the UK with 805 million euros (+1.3% on 2023). Double-digit growth for Canada with €413.8 million (+14.7% over 2023) and for Austria with €149.3 million (+14.1% over 2023). The strongest growth is recorded by Russia, with 216.1 million euros, marking a +52% on 2023.
The Asian zone grows by 4% in 2023 with Japan (170 million euros) and by 1.1% in 2023 with South Korea (45.6 million euros). Significant decrease for China, which stops at 81.2 million euros (-9.8% on 2023).
2025 will be full of challenges for Italian wine, which will have to face probable excise duties, taxes and debates on health. One thing is certain: the desire for Made in Italy in the world is very strong and will be able to live up to it.
